The PCC is the main decision maker of a parish. Its members are clergy, churchwardens and others elected by the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) of the parish. Its powers and duties are defined by legislation and can principally be found in the Parochial Church Councils (Powers) Measure 1956. It has the responsibility, along with the incumbent to promote the mission of God in its parish. Legally, the PCC is responsible for the finances of the parish. It also has ultimate responsibility for the care and maintenance of all church buildings and their contents. Although these responsibilities are executed by the churchwardens, all PCC members must share in the oversight. It has a voice in the forms of Service used by the church and may make representations to the bishop on matters that affect the welfare of the parish.
PCC Members from April 2023:
The Church of England is organised like “circles within circles”. The smallest “circle” is the parish. The next circle is called the deanery (in our case we’re part of Derby City). The next “circle” is the Archdeaconry (in our case we’re part of Derby City and South Derbyshire). The next “circle” is the Diocese (in our case we’re part of Derby Diocese).
Dioceses have “synods” which are elected committees made up of ordained people (Revs known as clergy) and Church members (known as laity).
Both our clergy were elected to serve on Diocesan Synod and we have two elected “lay” members.
Diocesan Synod Elected Members from July 2024:
We are a plant church of St Werburgh’s Derby. From time to time we may join together with the other churches in the Werbs Network.
